Welcome to my personal vegan website! I first started this section of my website back in 2000 due mostly to the lack of vegan information on the Internet. Fast forward 7 years and a Google search on "vegan" returns countless relevant, and often very helpful, information. Since I don't have a lot of time to devote to this project this isn't going to be the best source of info on veganism, but it will augment your search. One of the key differences you'll find is that my writing style is more personal than academic, providing a unique look at the topics available. That also means this website isn't a rock unto itself. You will need to look elsewhere to get a full and clear picture about all the aspects of veganism. (That seems obvious to me, but after a student used one of my articles to debate veganism in his class and claimed that since I didn't cite my sources that my information was to be totally disregarded... well, I decided I should tack up that disclaimer.)
If this is your first visit you might
want to breeze through the About
section to get more of a feel for the site. Enjoy your stay, and when you're done I highly recommend visiting Vegan Outreach.
PS- The figure above is based on
the estimate of 95
lives saved a year with a vegetarian
Imagine what that number would look like if we could
in the animals saved by a vegan lifestyle! (Note: this figure comes from PETA and works out to be about .26 animals a day. Considering the numerous ways humans have devised for killing animals for food, entertainment, and junk science, I think this is a very conservative estimate.)
PPS- If I had to redirect you to another website for more vegan info, I would have to mention Vegan Outreach, & the Animal Rights Veganism FAQ. If it was vegan recipes you were after (from easy to extravagant, healthy to indulgent, and every type of cuisine imaginable) I would say hurry on over to VegWeb, Cooking by Kittee, and the Post Punk Kitchen.
PPPS- Can you have that many Ps in a PS? Anyway, this website doesn't get updated very often anymore. As my diet and beliefs have shifted more towards raw veganism, I find that I identify less with the food info on this site. Raw foods can freak out potential vegans and long-time vegans alike so I don't feel its in anyone's best interest to put that info here. Like VO succinctly says in regards to veganism: "Ultimately, living with compassion means striving to maximize the good we accomplish, not following a set of rules or trying to fit a certain label. From eating less meat to being vegan, our actions are only a means to an end: decreasing suffering." I want to help end animal suffering, so I'm keeping my new beliefs quiet for now :)
